Precious Friends Puppy Rescue and Adoption Program
Precious Friends saves about 5,200 puppies from euthanization each year, with the support of North Shore Animal League of America.
The more we spay, the more lives we save.

History
Precious Friends was founded in 1992 by Linda Hutchison. She had a dream of making Clarksville and the surrounding areas free of stray and unwanted puppies. In the past, most of our puppies came from individuals around the Clarksville area. We have spayed so many in this area, that we are now able to take from shelters located in Tennessee, Kentucky, Georgia, Ohio, Texas, Illinois, Louisiana, Arkansas, Alabama, and Indiana. Dr. Hackett has been supporting our program since we opened in October 1992. He visits our facility two to three times a week to check puppies.
Last year, staff and volunteers at Precious Friends had 771 dogs spayed or neutered with the help of North Shore Animal League.
A dog can have two litters a year, averaging six puppies per litter.
If each of those 771 dogs spayed or neutered last year had reproduced unchecked, 9,252 puppies could have been born, and the majority most likely euthanized.

A No-Kill Shelter
Every puppy or kitten that enters our program finds a loving home. We work with North Shore Animal League Amercia of America, located in New York, so what we do not adopt out here we send to them. They are our main support. They supply us with the vaccinations and funding we need to run the program. They are the reason we are able to take in so many new puppies a week. We are a limited no-kill shelter, and North Shore Animal League is a no-kill shelter.

Until two or three years ago, the situation locally had improved, with fewer unwanted puppies being born in the Clarksville area, and brought into Precious Friends. Now, the problem has surged again, and Linda Hutchison is more committed than ever to spaying or neutering as many dogs and cats as possible.
"We've got to get working harder on it, through spaying and neutering, so these little guys don't end up getting put to sleep."
